Freeport FC lifts New Kru Town off-season 3rd Division Trophy
The New Kru Town Sub Association 3rd division off-season tournament ended last Sunday 1st September 2013 ,with Freeport FC defeating Austin FC 1-0 in the finals at the D. Twe Sports pitch in Monrovia.
Freeport FC’s substitute Francis Sipley in the 58th minute netted the lone goal through a rebound from left-winger Benedict Pah. The team lifted the NOCAL Cup and L$10,000, while runner-up Austin FC received L$5,000.
“The NOCAL CUP marks our first off-season title since we were established in 2011,” Freeport FC’s Augustine Mulbah said. For the individual awards, each recipient received L$500.
Christopher Natt of NEACO FC won the golden boots with 6 goals; Alex Dunneh of Popo Beach FC got the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award, while Freeport FC goalie Gabriel Mulbah clinched the golden gloves award as the Best Goalie.
The 8-day tournament was organized by Soccer for Hope-Liberia, in collaboration with the New Kru Town Sub-committee of the Liberia Football Association (LFA), and sponsored by the National Oil Company of Liberia (NOCAL).The Executive Director and Executive Secretary of Soccer for Hope-Liberia, Mustapha Raji and G. Andy Quarmie, in separate remarks, commended the 10 participating teams for their successful participation and the New Kru Town Sub-committee for the collaboration.
The Secretary of the New Kru Town Sub-committee, Philip Depay expressed satisfaction on the mutual-aid from Soccer for Hope and NOCAL, also thanked the teams for their participation.The sub-committee awarded certificates of recognition to Soccer for Hope and NOCAL, for promoting soccer throughout Liberia.The tourney, which kicked-off on Saturday, August 10 and ended last Sunday and participating teams were Freeport FC, Austin FC, NEACO FC, Karpeh Street FC, Controller FC, Popo Beach FC, Lazio FC, Pag FC, Augustine FC, Joy FC and Amos FC.
